Most folks following audio-visual consumer technology know that 4K has found a place in sports--broadcasters have been using 4K and even 8K cameras to record a number of major events, including the recording of Super bowl LI this past February 5th with a total of 38 UHD cameras.
However, there has been a disparity between what happens on the field and court with what makes it into your home...but that is rapidly changing...
Fox Sports announced they would start offering UHD sportscasts for an assortment of events including college football and basketball games along with major sports events from Major League Baseball, the NASCAR Rally and FIFA. The first broadcast was the California-Stanford college basketball game on February 17th.
Currently, the best (and only) way to leverage the 4K content is through Fox's partnership with DirecTV and a compatible receiver. It is expected, however, that additional providers will begin offering 4K content as the year matures.
