HDMI Audio Decoder and Converter

***Replaced by the TL-AD-HD2***

So you just installed this awesome surround sound audio system. You fire up Boston “More Than a Feeling” and listen to the pounding sounds symphony from the speakers placed around the room. The bass sounds great and the equalization is perfect. Life is good.

Wouldn’t it be great if Brad Delp’s sweet lyrics could be broadcast throughout the rest of the building? Maybe a little overflow audio into the second conference room? Good luck…

Surround sound is great for in-room applications, whether in a home theater, conference room, church, or auditorium. It’s not so great for overhead speakers or room-to-room distribution. So how do you handle connecting multichannel audio systems to traditional audio distribution?

Meet the TL-AD-HD—it’s the greatest thing since Boston’s debut in the seventies. The TL-AD-HD converts digital audio to analog audio and decodes multichannel audio to stereo audio. It essentially changes your audio format so a single facility, system or building can have both a multichannel zone and stereo audio zones.

    1. Connect the TL-AD-HD to your source device using an HDMI cable.
    2. Connect the TL-AD-HD analog and/or digital audio outputs to your destination device using audio cables.
    3. Optionally connect the TL-AD-HD HDMI output to a second destination device.
  • What comes in the package?
Each TL-AD-HD includes one decoder and one power supply.

What’s the max length of HDMI cable that I can connect to the decoder?
It really depends on the cable type and quality. Typically, we recommend using a twisted pair or fiber optic extender set for cable runs longer than 50 feet.

Do I need to power the unit?
Yes, the TL-AD-HD requires power and ships with a power supply.

I found a similar converter that is a lot less expensive. Are you ripping me off?
The operative word is “converter”… The TL-AD-HD both converts and decodes audio from the audio stream. A converter will only accept two channel (stereo) analog audio and convert it to two channel (stereo) digital audio. A decoder will accept two channel (stereo), six channel (5.1), and eight channel (7.1) analog audio and convert it to two channel (stereo) digital audio. This difference is critical if you are trying to connect to a home theater system or surround sound system.

How do I know if I am using 5.1 or 7.1 audio and need a “decoder”?
Do you have multiple speakers in a single room? Do you have a subwoofer? Odds are you have multichannel audio and need a decoder.

What happens if I try to connect a converter to a 5.1 or 7.1 system?
    It won’t work…you need a decoder…like the TL-AD-HD…that’s why we developed it…seriously…

I am decoding audio. Why is there an HDMI output port?
This is one of those cool little features you will see on a lot of our technology. The HDMI output port allows you to decode audio to the analog and digital audio output ports and send an HDMI stream to a separate device.

That’s cool. Does the HDMI stream support audio or just video? You bet! The HDMI stream supports both audio and video. And better yet, the HDMI audio is native to the source device. In other words, if you are connecting to a surround sound system via an HDMI cable the audio will still be 5.1 or 7.1.

Are all of the audio outputs active simultaneously?
Yes, the optical, coax, and RCA (stereo) outputs are all live simultaneously…and all output decoded audio.

I noticed this device supports HDCP 2.2. What’s the big deal? Is it worth spending a bit extra?
HDCP 2.2 is latest evolution of content protection. In other words, it’s the magic part of the HDMI signal that keeps people from copying DVDs, BluRays, streaming video, and other protected content. If you are connecting the TL-AD-HD to the latest HDMI gear, you will need HDCP 2.2 compatibility. Check your source and destination hardware specifications and look for HDCP 2.2 (as opposed to HDCP 2.0, HDCP 1.4 or an earlier version).

Do you offer a warranty on this device?
We sure do. It’s a standard one year limited warranty. Extended warranties are available from our integration partners and certified resellers.
