Opinion: Does USB-C Matter?
We often get asked if TechLogix will integrate USB-C into our devices. When we respond "should we?" we're often left with a simple shoulder shrug.
Even though USB-C is undeniably real and already here (see the TL-SMPC presenter cables), there seems to be a lot of confusion over why and how it will be implemented--or if it should be implemented at all.
A recent opinion article on rAVe by Richard Blackwell sums the potential upside nicely. As explained by Mr. Blackwell, using USB-C the "ubiquitous 120v power outlet goes away, and all of the labor and training to install it shifts over to a low voltage USB outlet that can be installed by almost anyone with a little training." In essence, USB-C supports HD video, high bandwidth data, and power--enough to power the device.
This is a big deal for all of us who travel internationally. It's an even bigger deal for those of us looking for a clean, efficient audio-visual installation.
So, to answer the originally posed question: yes, USB-C will definitely find its way onto more AV products, including ours.
